With over 100 years of experience, SKF (CR Industries) is the global leader in radial shaft lip seals, often referred to as oil seals, grease seals, or bearing seals. The very common lip seal is designed to retain lubricants or liquids, exclude contaminants, separate fluids, and confine pressure. The standard seal design includes a “case” or shell with a sealing lip bonded to it. The sealing lip is many times held in position against the dynamic shaft with a garter spring. Generally, spring-loaded lips are for retaining oil and non-spring-loaded are for low-speed grease retention or excluding contaminants. SKF technologies include Waveseal lip design, Bore-tite, Speedi-Sleeve, V-ring seals, Scotseal, large-diameter split seals, and all rubber seals.
